This course is a pre-recorded video series consisting of the shloka-s of the tenth skandha of Srimad Bhagavatam explained in Kannada by Vid. M. Vijayalakshmi. Dashama skandha is known as Heart of the Bhagavata. The first half of Bhagavata Skandha 10, focuses on the early life of Bhagavan Sri Krishna. The teacher brings out the profound tattva-s hidden in this Skandha in simple language with authentic interpretations drawn from traditional Sanskrit commentaries like Shridhariya.

Ability to understand Kannada.
A background in Vedanta, Vyakarana, and other shastras would be helpful in appreciating the subtle points mentioned during the classes.
Good knowledge of Sanskrit language and grammar, at the level of Chittoor - Samartha / Samskrita Bharati – Kovida is preferable
Knowledge of Skandha-s 1-9 of Srimad Bhagavata is recommended.

About the Text and Author

Srimad Bhagavata is one of the 18 Mahapurana-s, and is considered by many to be the greatest Purana. Srimad Bhagavata was composed by Veda Vyasa as per the advice of Narada – It is said that Vyasa maharshi initially organised the Veda-s into 4 branches and taught them to his disciples, which were then passed on through generations. After that, out of compassion for those to whom the Veda-s were not accessible, he composed the Mahabharata, which distills the entire Vedartha in simple terms. Yet, he was not completely satisfied. He attained contentment only after composing the Bhagavata, which represents the highest form of devotion to the Supreme being. Srimad Bhagavatam consists of 12 Skandhas, and 332 adhyaya-s. Dashama skandha, describing the avatara and leela-s of Sri Krishna is the most popular portion.

This course deals with the Skandha 10.

What is the Syllabus?

Dashama skandha is known as Heart of Bhagavata. There in the first half of Bhagavata Skandha 10, focuses on the early life of Bhagavan Sri Krishna. It narrates his divine birth to Devaki and Vasudeva, his miraculous childhood events in Gokula and Vrindavana. Also, his playful yet powerful actions as he defeats various demons like Putana, Bakasura sent by Kamsa. It also emphasises Krishna's divine play (leela-s), such as his mischievous acts with the Gopi-s, the lifting of Govardhana Hill, playful activities with cowherd boys, and his deep bond with Radha. Krishna's growing influence and his role as the protector of Dharma are central to the narrative.
