Most philosophical traditions accept the existence of Ishvara (Supreme Force), though the understanding of his nature differs across systems. However, thinkers such as the Charvaka-s hold that only what is perceived by the senses is real and therefore reject the existence of Dharma, Adharma, and Ishvara. To respond to such views, the Nyaya tradition presents strong logical arguments establishing the existence of Supreme Force. In his famous work Nyayakusumanjali, the 10th-century philosopher Udayanacharya systematically refutes the objections raised against Ishvara. This five-day course, organised by Vyoma Linguistic Labs Foundation, presents the essence of the First Stabaka of Nyayakusumanjali and explains classical Nyaya arguments that establish the existence of the Supreme Being.

Almost all philosophical systems accept Ishvara, but the nature and conception of Supreme Force differ in each system. Some schools, especially the Charvaka-s, maintain that only what is perceived through the senses is real. Based on this view, they deny the existence of Dharma, Adharma, and Ishvara, and such thinkers existed both in ancient times and in the present.
In response to these views, the ancient Naiyayika-s developed several logical arguments to establish the existence of Supreme Force. Among them, Udayanacharya made a remarkable contribution through his work Nyayakusumanjali, where he refutes the objections raised against the existence of Supreme Force.
In this course, the nature of Supreme Force itself is not the main topic of discussion. Instead, the focus is on presenting logical arguments that establish the existence of Supreme Force.
Many people accept the existence of Supreme Force based on faith, while others accept it because it is taught in the Veda-s. However, some people believe that only what is directly perceived is real. This course explains the Nyaya reasoning that addresses and refutes such views.
Over five days, the essence of the First Stabaka of Nyayakusumanjali will be explained. The objective of this course is to strengthen the conviction of Astika-s in the existence of Supreme Force through clear logical reasoning.
Udayanacharya was a renowned philosopher of the 10th century CE. He was born in Mithila, a region that corresponds to present-day Bihar in India. He was a prominent scholar of the Nyaya–Vaisheshika philosophical tradition and made significant contributions to Indian logic and metaphysics.
Udayanacharya composed several important works in these philosophical systems. Among his independent treatises are Nyayakusumanjali and Atmatattvaviveka. In addition to these, he also wrote commentarial works such as Kiranavali and Tatparyaparishuddhi.
One of his most celebrated works is the Nyayakusumanjali. This text is composed in a mixture of prose and verse (gadya–padya style). The work is divided into five sections called Stabaka-s.
In each of these Stabaka-s, Udayanacharya refutes the views of philosophers who do not accept the existence of Supreme Force(Ishvara). In the first four Stabaka-s, he systematically refutes the arguments that oppose the existence of Ishvara. In the fifth Stabaka, he establishes the pramana-s that prove the existence of Supreme Force.
