Laghu Siddhanta Kaumudi was authored by Varadaraja, a student of Bhattoji Dikshita. Bhattoji Dikshita’s monumental work, Vaiyakarana Siddhanta Kaumudi, is one of the foundational texts of Vyakarana, where all the sutras of the Ashtadhyayi are discussed with explanation and examples. Varadaraja condensed and abridged the elaborate and detailed Siddhanta Kaumudi to create the Laghu Siddhanta Kaumudi, for the use of beginners and students of other shaastras who wish to gain basic knowledge of Paninian system. Laghu Siddhanta Kaumudi contains 1270 sutras (about 30% of the total number) and covers the basics of all prakaranas/topics. Therefore, it is popularly included in the syllabus of many undergraduate courses in Sanskrit.

This course covers the Samaasa Prakarana of the Laghu Siddhanta Kaumudi. Samasa prakarana is divided into six chapters.
▪ First chapter deals with the concept of Samasa and the types of Samasas.
▪ Second chapter sheds light on Avyayibhava samasa and its types, elaborating the Samasa prakriya with examples.
▪ Third chapter covers Tatpurusha and its four types. It also discusses the gender of Tatpurusha samasa and the special samasantas (affixes) elaborating the samasa prakriya.
▪ Fourth chapter covers Bahuvrihi samasa. Concept of pumvadbhava and samasantas are also covered by this chapter.
▪ Fifth chapter is dedicated for Dvandva Samasa where concepts like Purvanipata, Ekashesh and Ekavadbhava are also introduced.
▪ Last chapter covers some special Samasantas and exceptions.
