This is a 4-week certificate course on the concept of Asiddha. Asiddhatva is one of the most important principles in Paninian grammar, which helps in deriving forms using sutras. It is an important control mechanism for the sequential operation of rules, and hence, understanding the concept of Asiddha is critical for any student of Paninian grammar. This course aims to provide a comprehensive summary of the basic concepts of asiddhatva – what it means; how it operates; what are the different kinds of asiddhatva; where it is applied. The course is presented in the form of 16 short pre-recorded videos in English, presented by Dr. Sowmya Krishnapur.

- This course does not follow any particular text of Vyakarana Shastra, but brings together concepts which are spread in various parts of the texts. The teacher introduces the meaning and application of the main sutra for asiddhatva given by the sutra पूर्वत्रासिद्धम् (८.२.१) | She then discusses a few more examples of Purvatrasiddham, and how the intricate structure of the Tripadi is crucial in generating the correct forms by applying sutras. Further to this, exceptions to Purvatrasiddham are discussed with examples, helping the learners develop a comprehensive understanding of this sutra.
- In addition, the teacher also introduces the other sutras of Ashtadhyayi which deal with asiddhatva, such as षत्वतुकोरसिद्धः (६.१.८६) and असिद्धवदत्राभात् (६.४.२२), as also the paribhasha असिद्धं बहिरङ्गमन्तरङ्गे । These are not dealt with in detail, but introduced with simple examples, for beginner-level students.
- Based on this course, learners would be able to develop an understanding of all the key features of asiddhatva, and be equipped to appreciate the nuances of this concept as and when they come across the discussions in various texts of Vyakarana Shastra.
Yes, there will be an assessment at the end of 4 weeks, which includes a written assignment for 50 marks, and an Objective Computer-based test for 50 marks. You will get a certificate from Vyoma Labs if you get 60% overall (cumulative score of the written assignment + MCQ test).
