Venisamharam - Act 3 (Tamil Explanation)
Venisamhara is a drama in six acts, composed by Bhatta Narayana. It derives its name from the ferocious vow of Bhima. Bhima is enraged by the humiliation of Draupadi in the court of Kauravas. He vows to drink the blood of Dushshasana, break the thigh of Duryodhana, and smear Draupadi’s hair with that blood. In these audio lectures, Smt. Visalakshi Sankaran explains the text in simple Sanskrit.

Venisamhara is a drama in six acts, composed by Bhatta Narayana. It derives its name from the ferocious vow of Bhima. Bhima is enraged by the humiliation of Draupadi in the court of Kauravas. He vows to drink the blood of Dusshasana, break the thigh of Duryodhana, and smear Draupadi’s hair with that blood. Venisamhara is known for its forceful verses, with the veerarasa dominant through most of the play.
The story in the third act starts with Ashvatthama hearing about his father’s death. He birtterly weeps and speaks to Kripacharya, Duryodhana etc. and curses Dhrishtadyumna. He has a quarrel with Karna regarding the leadership of the army. The act ends with Bhima trying to drink the blood of Dusshasana and others trying to protect the latter. There are 49 shlokas in total in this act.
