Visalakshi Sankaran explains in detail the 10 adhyayas of the second skandha in Tamil, along with the commentary of Shridhariya.

- Good knowledge of Sanskrit language and grammar, at the level of Chittoor – Samartha / Samskrita Bharati – Kovida.
- Ability to understand simple spoken Tamil.
- A background in Vedanta, Vyakarana and other shastras would be helpful in appreciating the subtle points mentioned during the classes.
- Knowledge of the Srimad Bhagavatam Skandha 1 - Tamil is required.

Srimad Bhagavatam is one of the 18 Mahapuranas, and is considered by many to be the greatest Purana. Srimad Bhagavatam was composed by Veda Vyasa as per the advice of Narada – It is said that Vyasa maharshi initially organised the vedas into 4 branches and taught them to his disciples, which were then passed on through generations. After that, out of compassion for those to whom the vedas were not accessible, he composed the Mahabharata, which distills the entire vedartha in simple terms. Yet, he was not completely satisfied. He attained contentment only after composing the Bhagavatam, which presents the highest form of devotion to the Supreme being.
Srimad Bhagavatam consists of 12 Skandhas, and 332 adhyayas. Dashama skandha, describing the avataara and leelaas of Sri Krishna is the most popular. This is also known as the heart of Srimad Bhagavatam.
This course covers Skandha 2 of Srimad Bhagavatam, which contains 10 adhyayas (chapters). In the first few chapters, Shukamuni discusses aspects of Ashtangayoga, manifestations of Bhagavan, and the processes of Kramamukti and Sadyomukti. Later, in answer to Parikshit's question, he gives a profound description of the entire process of Creation, as narrated by Brahma to Devarshi Narada.
Brahma describes the step-wise evolution of the entire universe from the Supreme Being. He also describes the various manifestations of Lord Narayana. Last few adhyayas describe the origin and greatness of the Bhagavata itself.
