Learn to Chant Sankshepa-Ramayanam (Experience the essence of Ramayana in 100 shlokas)

Ramayanam is the first epic (आदिकाव्य) of world literature consisting of nearly 24,000 verses written by Valmiki Maharshi. The first chapter of the first kanda (The Bala kanda) of this epic is popularly known as Sankshepa-Ramayanam. This is an abridged version of Ramayana that consists of 100 verses. It is accorded a status equal to that of Ramayana and is evidenced from its phalashruti. In this chapter, Narada Muni tells Valmiki Maharshi the brief story of Rama and persuades him to write about Rama’s life. Many people have a ritual of chanting this on a daily or weekly basis at their houses even today. In this course, Vid.Vaishnava Simha will teach to recite all the shlokas in Sankshepa-Ramayanam with good pronunciation and proper split-points.

Know More about the Course

Ramayana is an ever-fresh epic with a global footprint. The 24,000 verses of this masterpiece are divided into seven kandas: The Bala kanda the Ayodhya kanda, the Aranya kanda, the Kishkindha kanda, the Sundara kanda, the Yuddhakanda and Uttarakanda and about 500 sargas (chapters).
When Valmiki Maharshi enquires about an ideal human having 16 admirable qualities to Narada Muni, Narada rejoices and expounds the life of Rama, prince of the Kosala kingdom.
The story covers his fourteen-years of exile in the forest to abide by his father’s words. Rama along with his wife Sita and brother Lakshmana, travels across forests. The kidnapping of Sita by Lankeshwara Ravana, causes a war. Rama eventually returns to Ayodhya after slaying Ravana and is crowned as king. This whole story is summarized into 100 verses which is known as Sankshepa Ramayanam that is found in the starting of Bala kanda.
It is believed that chanting this chapter completely, gives the phala of doing the parayanam of the whole Ramayana. Even today many people across the globe byheart and recite this chapter on a daily basis.
