This course is tailored to the syllabus of Level 2 (Abhijna) of Chittoor Exams.
Students are expected to have a good understanding of the basic language structure, shabdarupas, and dhaturupas.
They should have passed at least 3 levels of any informal series of Samskrita exams such as Samskrita Bharati, Surasaraswathi Sabha, etc.
Ability to understand simple spoken Sanskrit & English.

Kalidasa, revered as Kavikulaguru (the leader of the lineage of poets), remains one of the most celebrated figures in Sanskrit literature. His poetry is renowned for its unmatched grace and beauty. His works include two Mahakavyas (epic poems), namely Raghuvamsha and Kumarasambhava, two Khandakavyas (shorter narrative poems), Meghaduta and Ritusamhara, and three dramas - Abhijnana Shakuntala, Vikramorvashiya, and Malavikagnimitra.
Raghuvamsha holds a special place as the foremost among the Pancha Mahakavyas, representing the pinnacle of Sanskrit poetic excellence. It vividly narrates the lineage of the Raghu dynasty, spanning four generations before Rama, highlighting the noble virtues of Dileepa, Raghu, Aja, and Dasharatha. The epic then unfolds the tale of Sri Rama, followed by the lineage of his descendants for twenty-four generations. Revered as a timeless classic of Sanskrit literature, Raghuvamsha continues to inspire scholars, poets, and readers worldwide with its literary brilliance, profound philosophical insights, and enduring cultural significance, transcending boundaries of time and place with its universal appeal.
This course covers the 12th sarga of Raghuvamsha, which narrates the story of the Ramayana from Rama's exile to the demise of Ravana. This sarga is included in the syllabus for students undertaking the Abhijna exam of the Chittoor board. The sarga consists of 104 verses in the Anushtup chandas (except the last three), detailing Rama's gracious acceptance of exile, Bharata's noble conduct, the encounter with Shurpanakha, the alliance with the vanaras and the quest for Sita, culminating in the epic battle with Ravana. While the storyline may be familiar, the sarga provides numerous opportunities for Kalidasa to showcase his skillful mastery of poetic expression.
