Raghuvamsha - Sarga 3 (Sanskrit Explanation)
Raghuvamsha is one of the most celebrated Mahakavyas of Sanskrit, composed by the master poet Kalidasa. 3rd sarga of this kavya describes the birth of Raghu, and his fight with Indra to complete his father's yajna. This course explains each verse in simple Sanskrit with anvaya and word-by-word meaning.

Raghuvamsha is one of the most popular Mahakavyas of Samskrit, and one of the best creations of the master poet Kalidasa. It is a poem which is truly Mahat (Great) in style, in beauty and in its characters. It is primarily based on the Adikavya Ramayana. Rama was the hero in Valmiki Ramayana, but Raghuvamsha is multi hero Kavya. Kalidasa narrates the story of all the kings born in Suryavamsha emphasizing the great qualities of them. He uses various metre according to the rasa of the story. ‘पुरा कवीनां गणनाप्रसङ्गे कनिष्ठिकाधिष्ठितकालिदासः’ depicts the greatness of poet Kalidasa. Kalidasa is known for Simile (उपमा कालिदासस्य).
Third sarga of the Raghuvamsha is titled Raghu Rajyabhisheka. This sarga deals with the birth, growth and the coronation of the great king ‘Raghu’, after whom this Kavya is named.
