Raghuvamsha is the most popular Mahakavya of Sanskrit, and It is one of the masterpieces of Kalidasa, It is a poem which is truly mahat (Great) in style, in beauty and in its characters. Kalidasa is a Classical Sanskrit author who is often considered ancient India's greatest poet and playwright. His plays and poetry are primarily based on the Vedas, the Ramayana, the Mahabharata and the Puranas. His surviving works consist of three plays, two epic poems and two shorter poems. Much about his life is unknown except what can be inferred from his poetry and plays. His works cannot be dated with precision, but they were most likely authored before the 5th century CE.
Raghuvamsha is one of the most popular Mahakavya of Sanskrit. It narrates, in 19 sargas, the stories related to the Raghu dynasty, namely the family of Dilipa and his descendants up to Agnivarna, who include Raghu, Dasharatha and Rama.
This course covers the sixth Sarga of Raghuvamsha, which explains about the svayamvara of Indumathi. Also describes the qualities and kingdoms of all the princes who were present and how she finally chooses Aja as her husband. The sarga has 86 shlokas, and each shloka will be explained in the course in detail.
