The Orientation Program lays the academic foundation for the Masters' Training Program by introducing participants to the philosophy, structure, and interdisciplinary scope of Indian Knowledge Systems (IKS), with a focused exploration of the Arthashastra tradition. The course familiarizes learners with the architecture of IKS, foundational Sanskrit concepts and terminologies, and the tools required to engage with classical knowledge texts. It further examines Kautilya's Arthashastra, highlighting its principles of governance, statecraft, strategy, and public administration, while demonstrating their relevance to contemporary discourse. By establishing a strong conceptual and textual foundation, this phase prepares participants for advanced thematic courses and their subsequent role as Master Trainers. Designed as the entry point to the Masters’ Training  Programme Course, this phase prepares participants for advanced specialization and scholarly engagement in the thematic discipline of Political Science, Economics, and Strategic Sciences.

"Samskrit for Arthashastra" is a specialized foundational course designed to unlock the strategic, economic, and political wisdom embedded in Kautilya's magnum opus. Sanskrit has served for centuries as a principal medium through which Indian Knowledge Systems (IKS) are preserved, articulating a vast body of literature with remarkable precision. Classical works like the Arthashastra are composed in concise sutras, where key concepts derive profound meaning from verbal roots and precise grammatical constructions.
However, modern professionals often find these linguistic and grammatical barriers daunting. This course addresses that challenge by building the essential language skills and grammatical understanding necessary to begin engaging directly with the original text. This foundational knowledge helps learners to reliance on secondary translations, preparing you to analyse primary sources with greater clarity, fostering direct engagement with the intellectual traditions that form the foundation of IKS.

This course bridges Vedic and Shastric knowledge traditions with contemporary approaches to management, finance, and governance, offering a holistic framework for navigating organisational and professional challenges.

Participants will explore the Saptanga framework as an alternative perspective on stakeholder and organisational systems, while using Dharma as an ethical foundation for financial and economic decision-making. Insights from the Ramayana and Mahabharata will inform effective communication and leadership, while the Pancha Mahayajnas offer perspectives on cultivating a culture of responsibility and gratitude.

The course further draws on Sundara Kanda for resilience and navigating adversity, and on Pramana Shastra and the Triguna framework to develop clarity in reasoning and decision-making. By connecting these knowledge traditions with contemporary practice, the course enables learners to approach leadership, management, finance, and governance through a more integrated and contextually grounded perspective.

This course introduces the foundational ideas of the Bharatiya Arthashastra tradition, focusing on its systematic and conceptual dimensions from the Shastra texts. Rather than approaching the subject through narrative or purely historical accounts, the course emphasizes the analytical frameworks, principles, and methodologies that define Arthashastra as a disciplined body of knowledge.

Drawing primarily from Kautilya's Arthashastra, the course explores key concepts such as governance structures, leadership qualities, administrative systems, intelligence mechanisms, and internal order. It further examines important theoretical models including the Saptanga theory of the state, the Rajamandala framework of interstate relations, and the Shadgunya Siddhanta along with the Caturopayas Sama, Dana, Bheda, and Danda.

While maintaining a strict focus on Shastraic analysis, the course also incorporates select case studies from Itihasa, Purana-s, and the Panchatantra to illustrate the application of these principles in varied contexts. This integrated approach enables students to understand Arthashastra as a coherent science of governance and strategy with enduring relevance.

The Residential Programme is an immersive, full-day learning experience designed to deepen participants' understanding through expert lectures, interactive discussions, collaborative peer learning, and participant presentations. Conducted daily from 9:30 AM to 5:00 PM, the programme provides a structured environment for knowledge exchange, practical engagement, and holistic learning.

Certification for Phase-I - All participants will receive a Participation Certificate jointly issued by IKS Division, Ministry of Education, Govt. Of India and Vyoma Linguistic Labs Foundation. Top 40 participants will be shortlisted for the next phase.

The final Masters’ Trainer Certificate will be awarded only after the participant has:

• Successfully completed all three courses.
• Met the attendance and assessment requirements.
• Participated in the residential training Program.
