Ashtadhyayi or Ashtadhyayi Sutrapatha is a foundational text of Sanskrit grammar, presenting grammatical rules concisely. Understanding and applying the sutras of Ashtadhyayi is greatly helped by having the sutras in memory. This course is designed to train students to memorize and recite from memory the sutras of the first two chapters of the Ashtadhyayi. This course is especially beneficial for students studying or interested in studying Paninian Vyakarana at any level.

“अष्टाध्यायी जगन्माता अमरकोशो जगत्पिता” (Ashtadhyayi is the mother of the world, and Amarakosha is the father) is a popular saying. Ashtadhyayi and Amarakosha are extremely useful tools for those who wish to gain a mastery of Sanskrit language and the shastras. In olden times, it was a common practice to teach children to memorize these two texts at a very young age, even before formal learning began. Equipped with these fixed in memory, as they studied the language and shastras, the children learnt to apply the sutras easily, and had a phenomenal vocabulary.
Ashtadhyayi Sutrapatha or just Ashtadhyayi is written by Maharshi Panini. Ashtadhyayi, a text of approximately 4000 sutras, is divided into eight Adhyayas (chapters), and hence the name is Ashtadhyayi. अष्टानाम् अध्यायानां समाहार: इति अष्टाध्यायी. These sutras tell the rules of grammar conscisely and is the primordial text in Vyakarana Shastra.
The first and second chapters of Ashtadhyayi will be taught in the course in the same order as the padas.

All students are also recommended to buy either the downloadable version (for Windows) or Portable Audio version (mp3) of the अष्टाध्यायीसूत्रपाठः audio by Vyoma Labs. This tool has audio of the entire Ashtadhyayi in teacher-student repetition mode and chanting mode. Following the webinar classes, students are expected to practice the sutras which were taught using this Audio, so that they would be prepared to recite it in the next class.
Yes. There will be a set of periodic quizzes in the course and an oral test will be conducted at the end of the course. Upon successful completion of the quizzes and the oral test, a certificate will be issued to all participants who score above 60%.
