Learn to do Ganesha Pooja

Performing pooja to God has a great significance, and it is an important tradition that is followed in the culture of Bharath. There are varied types of pooja being performed in households and temples. Shodashopachara Pooja (16 types of offerings) is the most widely used form of Pooja. In this course, Vid.Viswanathan P will take us step-by-step, on the procedure of performing an authentic Ganesha Pooja.

Required materials for the course (updated list) - 

1 Haridra | Turmeric | हल्दी | ಅರಿಶಿನ | மஞ்சள் 100 gms

2 Kumkumam | Kumkum | सिंदूर |குங்குமம் | ಕುಂಕುಮ 100 gms

3 Candanam | Sandal Powder | चंदन | Gandha | சந்தனம் 1 small box

4 Rice flour - for rangoli 50 gms

5 Mango leaves 5 bunches

6 Banana leaves 2 nos.

7 Betel leaves 12 nos.

8 Betel nuts 100 gms

9 Akshata (Rice + Ghee + Turmeric powder) 100 gms

10 Cotton wicks - batti 1 packet

11 Matchbox 1 no.

12 Oil for lamp 100 ml

13 Lamps - 2/4 and 2 for aarati 2 or 4 nos.

14 Cocounts 2 nos.

15 Dhoti with towel - for devata vastra or cotton mala 1 set

16 Fruits : Pomogrenate, guava, apple, orange etc - as per availability 2 nos. each

17 Banana 1 kg

18 Camphor 20 nos.

19 Flower garlands - 1 for vigraham, 1 for chitra-pata 2 nos.

 Initial instructions:

Once Ganesha vigraha is ready with decoration, bring him to the pooja platform, in a plate with some naivedyam and resounding bells. 

 Place Ganesha in a raised platform, and decorate with ornaments, clothes, yajnopaveet (janivara). 

 Keep the items in bowls or plates, so that they may be quickly usable for the pooja

 Keep the list of family members - with Name, Nakshatra, Rashi ready for sankalpa"

Naivedyam can be as per the family sampradaya

Certain pooja items may vary depending on the family traditions

 All flowers and leaves prescribed may not be available. We may use the other leaves / flowers
