The Samskritasri Pathamala - 4 exam is the fourth exam in a graded series of 8 exams conducted by the Society. This fourth level is taught by Smt. Sriranjani Vijaykumar. The course strengthens foundational Sanskrit skills while guiding learners through essential grammar, textual study, vocabulary building, and applied language skills. Even if they haven't taken the exam, they should have compulsorily learnt the material covered in that course.

Samskritasri is a monthly journal brought out by the Sanskrit Education Society (regd.) with its head office in RA Puram, Chennai, established for the purpose of teaching the divine language of Sanskrit through the medium of Tamil.
The magazine was first published in 1977 with the blessings of his Holiness Sri Shankaracharya of Kanchi Kamakoti Jagadguru Sri Jayendra Saraswati Swamigal.
Late. Sri S. V. Radhakrishna Shastri, who was the guiding force behind Samskritasri and the designing of the Pathamala syllabus, was a learned scholar in Ayurveda, Tantra, Vedanta, Mimamsa, and Dharma-shastra-s and a distinguished personality in Veda-s, Tarka, Advaita & Sanskrit.
In recognition of his expertise, he was awarded the Presidential Certificate of Honour for Outstanding Contribution to Sanskrit in 2003 by the President of India, an award given to eminent Sanskrit scholars.
He has authored and compiled many books relating to Ayurveda, Sanskrit, Vedic, and Puranic Literature.
The Pathamala series has a very unique and judicious mix of Vyakarana (Grammar), Kavya (Literature), Bhakti through Stotra-s and Bhagavat katha and essays on varied topics.
The lessons were initially published through Samskritasri and later compiled in book form. At present exams are conducted at 8 levels of 6 months duration each, exams being held in January and July every year.
The syllabus has been carefully designed to introduce vocabulary and grammar concepts in a graded and structured fashion.
Both the examinations and the evaluation of answer papers ensure a high standard and test the thorough and in-depth understanding of various concepts by the students, thus making this a very sought-after course by discerning students.
