About the Teacher

Know More about the Course

Adi Shankaracharya is one of the most important Acharya-s of Sanatana Dharma. His teachings are centered on the concept of Advaita Vedanta, which emphasizes the ultimate oneness of the individual (Atman) with the universal consciousness (Brahman). His philosophical works and commentaries on the Prasthanatraya (Upanishads, Bhagavad gita and Brahma Sutras) form the foundation for the Vedanta Shastra.

Further, Sri Shankaracharya has composed numerous stotras of various devotees. He developed the "Shanmata" system, which acknowledges six major paths, each devoted to a particular deity, while ultimately emphasizing the underlying unity of the divine. The six paths are dedicated to Vishnu (Vaishnava), Shiva (Shaiva), Shakti (Shakta), Ganapati (Ganapatya), Surya (Saura), and Skanda (Kumara). Each path venerates its chosen deity as the supreme reality while recognizing the validity of other paths. Shankaracharya's intention behind the Shanmata doctrine was to foster harmony and mutual respect among followers of different traditions, emphasizing that all paths ultimately lead to the same divine reality.

Sri Shankaracharya has composed beautiful stotra-s on all devata-s of Shanmata, all infused with the essence of Advaita and Bhakti. Among these stotra-s, three stotra-s will be taught in the course are Kalyanavrishitistava (a composition on Devi) belonging to Shakta-mata, Shiva Panchakshara Nakshatramala Stotra (a composition on Shiva) belonging to Shaiva-mata and Lakshmi Nrisimha Karavalamba Stotra (a composition on Lakshmi Narasimha) belonging to Vaishnava-mata.

1) Kalyanavrishtistava - A stotra consisting of 16 shlokas on Devi praising her and requesting her to shower her blessings on us. The uniqueness of the stotra lies in the fact that each shloka starts with letters from the 'Panchadashakshari Mantra'.

2) Shiva Panchakshara Nakshatramala Stotra - This is a stotra consisting of 27 shloka-s (excluding the last Phalashruti shloka), denoting the 27 nakshatra-s, with each pada of the shloka-s ending with "Namah Shivaya" which is the Shiva Panchakshara Mahamantra. Thus, reading this stotra once results in japa of the Mantra 108 times.

3) Lakshmi Nrisimha Karavalamba Stotra - A stotra extolling the qualities of Lakshmi Narasimha and praying him to protect us by lending us his hands.
All shloka-s of the 3 stotra-s - Kalyanavrishtistava, Shiva Panchakshara Nakshatramala Stotra and Lakshmi Nrisimha Karavalamba Stotra by Sri Adi Shankaracharya, will be taught in this course.
