Dashagani Prakriya - Introduction to derivation of Verb-forms

This is a past webinar course on the derivation of verb forms according to Paninian system. It provides an introduction to the basic rules which operate in each lakaara, and demonstrates the prakriya for deriving the forms of 20 dhatus – 2 representatives from each of the 10 dhatuganas. This course, presented by Dr. Sowmya Krishnapur, was taught specifically to help students in preparing for Paper 5 of Acharyasetu course of Mukta Swadhyaya Peetham.

What are the prerequisites to get the best out of this course? (Eligibility)

  • Students attempting this course must have compulsorily studied the Laghu Siddhanta Kaumudi or Siddhanta Kaumudi in quite some detail – A good grounding in samjnas and paribhashas, sandhis, subanta prakriya is essential.
  • They are also expected to have studied the first two chapters of the तिङन्तप्रक्रिया course, namely विषयप्रवेशः and धातुपाठः
  • This is a fast-paced course targeted at exam preparation – It is not meant for beginners in vyakarana or those who are not comfortable with basic aspects of Paninian system.
  • Ability to understand simple spoken Sanskrit.

This course is designed to aid in preparation for Paper 5 of Acharyasetu course of Mukta Swadhyaya Peetham. The syllabus includes Dashagani prakarana of the Siddhanta Kaumudi, first two dhatus from each gana. This course concentrates on the prakriya part of these dhatus, and does not go into detailed sutrartha discussion.
Forms of all 20 dhatus in each lakaara are analysed together, which makes it easy to identify and remember the similarities and differences. This approach is primarily based on the teachings of Mataji Smt. Pushpa Dikshit
