Bearing this in mind, this live webinar course covers the key grammar concepts of Sandhi-s (modification of letters / sounds), Samaasa-s (compound words) and dhaaturoopa-s (verbal forms). It also focusses on improving the sentence construction and writing skills in Sanskrit, through a series of essays. Taught by Dr. Sowmya Krishnapur, this course is aligned with the syllabus of 3rd paper of the 3rd level (Vichakshana) of Chittoor exams. What are the prerequisites to get the best out of this course? (Eligibility)

  • Should have a reasonably good hold of basic Samskrita language & vocabulary.
  • Should have passed Chittoor Level 2 or 3rd level of any other exam-series in Samskrita (Surasaraswathi Sabha / Patrachara Samskritam / Pathamala). 
  • Ability to understand simple spoken Sanskrit & English. (Note: The Sessions would be conducted in 75% Sanskrit and 25% English)

What is the effort required to complete this course? 

  • This is a 3-Credit Course, with total expected Student effort of  90-100 hrs.
  • Each credit in our system is equivalent to approximately 30 hours of learner-effort comprising all learning activities - This includes the time for attending the live sessions, listening to the recorded class material, solving exercises and completing the projects and assessments prescribed for the course.

Requirements for Completion of the Course and Admission to further levels

Learners can follow the course either by attending Live Classes or through the recordings. However, it is expected that
  • They should actively solve all the exercises & worksheets provided for the course.
  • They should compulsorily attempt all the mid-term practice tests announced for the course.
  • They should compulsorily take up the course-end online assessment.
Passive learners who do not take part in the above activities may not be permitted admission into Live sessions of further courses in the series.

No, this is a course that would be helpful for any student learning Sanskrit at an intermediate level, in a formal or informal setting. After a couple of years of learning, it is common for learners to start experiencing difficulty with grammar concepts, and feeling overwhelmed by the details. This course covers key concepts in an applied manner such that learners can grasp the foundational concepts easily and gain the confidence to move further in their pursuit of Sanskrit. 

Incidentally, the course is also aligned with the syllabus of Level 3 Paper 3 of the Chittoor Exam Series. One of the key missions of Vyoma is to provide support  for exams conducted by various Sabha-s like the Chittoor Sabha, Surasaraswathi Sabha, etc. In line with this mission, extensive support would be provided in the course for students preparing for the Chittoor exams. However, even those who do not want to write the Chittoor exams are welcome to attend the course and build a strong foundation in Sanskrit grammar. 

Samskrita Bhasha Pracharini Sabha, Chittoor was established in 1945 for the cause of Samskrita Prachaara by a few veteran scholars, with Chittoor in Andhra Pradesh as its centre. This is one of the oldest Samskrita Sabhas in India, and the Chittoor exam series is held in high esteem by scholars for its depth and comprehensiveness.

A key feature of the Chittoor exam syllabus is the introduction of Samskrita kavyas right from the first level. All the genres of literature such as Padya, Gadya, Champu, Nataka, etc are covered in the syllabus in a graded manner, giving students exposure to authentic usage of Samskrita language by various poets of yore.

The syllabus also introduces elective Shaastras at Level 5 and Level 6. Students can choose from 9 shaastra options including Alankara, Vyakarana, Tarka, Mimamsa, Vedanta, Jyotisha, Ayurveda, Dharmashastra and Purana.
6 exams are conducted by the Chittoor Sabha.
Level 1 - Parichaya (1 paper - 100 marks)
Level 2 - Abhijna (2 papers - 200 marks)
Level 3 - Vicakshana (3 papers - 300 marks)
Level 4 - Samartha (4 papers - 400 marks)
Level 5 - Kovida (5 papers - 500 marks)
Level 6 - Vidyabhushana (6 papers - 600 marks)

Level 3 of the Chittoor Board Exam Series is called Vichakshana (विचक्षणः) । It consists of 3 papers - 
1. Paper 1 (Lessons & Drama)
  • Samskrita Bodhini Part 3 (Textbook Published by Chittoor Sabha)
  • Mritasanjivanam (A short Drama)
2. Paper 2 (Poetry)
  • Yadavabhyudayam Sarga 1 (A Mahakavyam)
  • Neetichandrika (A collection of Subhashitas)
3. Paper 3 (Grammar and Composition)
  • Sandhiviveka (A booklet on Sandhis published by Chittoor Sabha) 
  • Samasa Kusumavali (A booklet on Samaasas published by Chittoor Sabha)
  • Dhatumanjari Part 1 (Forms of about 45 essential verbs in 10 lakaaras)
  • Nibandhamala (A collection of Sanskrit essays published by Chittoor Sabha)
This course focusses on portions prescribed for Paper 3 (Grammar and Composition). All components of this paper will be dealt with systematically. The course is designed to be useful not only to aspirants of Chittoor Sabha exams, but also to any general student of Sanskrit who wishes to build a strong foundation in Sanskrit grammar and composition.

There are two separate assessments for the course - 
1. Vyoma Course End Assessment - This is an ONLINE MCQ-based exam conducted by Vyoma Labs at the end of the Course. Certificates will be provided to all learners who clear this exam with 60% or more marks. 

2. Chittoor Board Exam - Chittoor Board conducts exams twice a year, usually on the second weekend of March and September. These are strictly OFFLINE exams, to be taken up at a recognised center of the Chittoor Board. 
Vyoma has Chittoor exam centers in Bangalore, Chennai, Mumbai and Hyderabad. Those who take up and pass the exams in these centers will be provided certificates by Chittoor board.
Vyoma also conducts ONLINE exams (combination of MCQ + Descriptive) for those who cannot travel to the offline exam centers. These are usually conducted in the week after the Offline exams, and are meant purely for providing feedback to the students. These exams are not recognised by the Chittoor board, and No certificate will be provided.

Vyoma Course Completion Certificate - E-certificates will be provided by Vyoma Labs to all learners who clear the Vyoma Course End Assessment with 60% or more marks.

Chittoor Board Certificate - Students who write the OFFLINE exam in any recognized Chittoor board center (including Vyoma centers in Bangalore / Chennai / Hyderabad / Mumbai) will get a certificate from Chittoor board. This certificate will be provided on completion of all Papers of a particular Level.

No certificate will be provided for the ONLINE Chittoor exams conducted by Vyoma.
