The Champuramayana of Bhoja is one of the most popular kavyas of the Champu type, follows the story of Valmiki’s Ramayana closely, but compresses it a great deal. It is known for the beauty of expressions and his style is sweet and distinctive. Champu is a category of poetry where both verse and prose are employed. Bhoja was a great king, a sincere patron of Samskrta. He only wrote 5 kaṇdas (up to the Sundarakanda)
The Balakanda of the poem covers the entire Balakanda as in Valmiki Ramayana, starting from the Valmiki’s curse to the krauncha bird to Rama meeting Parashurama, covering all major events like Rama’s birth, education, journey along with Vishvamitra, killing of Tataka, protecting the yajna from asuras, stories of ganga, Ahalya, Trishanku and Rama’s marriage.

The lecturer has nicely formatted the lecture content in terms of first explaining the shloka in question-answer form, then giving in text form the full meaning of the shloka, followed by the inner message driven by the shloka and finally vyakarana i.e., the grammar part of words in the shloka. Thus the full spectrum of shloka has been exhibited. Therefore the lecturer has done full justice for each shloka thereby satisfying the curiosity of the audience. This is how a presentation of a kavya should be.
