Once when Rishi Veda Vyasa was afflicted by a deep grief in spite of working with Vedas, puranas and giant itihasa like Mahabharatam, he composed Shrimad Bhagavatam to come out of his great pain and attained inner peace and bliss. The reading of this text is of similar benefits for the bhaktas. This dharmika grantha contains the heart-touching, path-showing, grief-healing stories of great bhaktas of Bhagavan, like Prahlada, Dhruva, Gajendra and also has a great part of it devoted to describe the leelas of Sri Krishna. The text of Bhagavata is usually chanted in 1 week following a traditional way, called the Bhagavata Saptaaha. A discourse usually accompanies the parayanam
