The plot has the following events- Dushyanta entering into the penance place of Kanva rshi, developing of mutual love between Dushyanta and Shakuntala, their gandharva vivaha, the curse of Durvasa, Shakuntala leaving for Hastinapura, she losing the token ring, Dushyanta rejecting Shakuntala, the accidental discovery of the ring by Dushyanta, Dushyanta’s deep pain on remembering the course of events, Dushyanta’s journey to heaven and unexpected meeting with his son in the hermitage of Maricha, the meeting with Shakuntala and happy union of the lovers in the end.
