Ramayana is an epic with 24,000 verses. In the beginning chapter when Valmiki Maharshi enquires about an ideal human having 16 admirable qualities to Narada Muni, Narada rejoices and expounds the life of Rama. This episode in Ramayana is known as Sankshepa Ramayanam or the "Concise Ramayana". Sankshepa Ramayanam is a summary of the epic Ramayana, traditionally attributed to Valmiki. It appears in the Bala Kanda, the first chapter of the Ramayana, and serves as a concise retelling of the key events and themes of the entire epic.
Many students of Sanskrit and those who learn the Ramayana start by memorizing and reciting the Sankshepa Ramayanam, as it provides a way to absorb the key lessons and themes of the story in a compact form.
The Sankshepa Ramayana comprising of 100 shloka-s, condenses the entire narrative of Lord Rama’s journey, including his exile, the abduction of Sita by Ravana, his alliance with Sugriva, the building of the bridge to Lanka, the defeat of Ravana, and the reunion with Sita.
