Experience Sanskrit Like Never Before through Mirrored Verses

Sri-Raghava-Yadaviyam - Two Epics in Every Verse

Raghava-Yadaviyam is a unique Sanskrit poem that tells two distinct narratives through the same verses. It recounts the story of Bhagavan Rama (Raghava) when read conventionally from left to right (anuloma). Conversely, reading the verses from right to left (pratiloma) unveils the tale of Bhagavan Krishna (Yadava) and the Parijata-apaharana incident. This makes it a palindromic or reversible poem, essentially encapsulating two epics within a single composition. This extraordinary linguistic and devotional masterpiece is brought to life by Smt. Visalakshi Sankaran, whose profound knowledge and insightful instruction illuminate the poem's intricate layers. The course Raghava-Yadaviyam offers a systematic and engaging study of this literary gem, revealing the poet's mastery and the depth of Sanskrit poetics.

Know More about the Course

Sri-Raghava-Yadaviyam, composed by Venkatadhvari, is a remarkable and ingenious work of Sanskrit poetry.  It exemplifies the extraordinary capabilities of Sanskrit as a language of symmetry, structure, and creativity. It is a dual narrative Sanskrit poem composed in such a way that reading it forwards narrates the story of Rama (Raghava), and reading it in reverse (each verse backwards) tells the story of Krishna (Yadava). The same shlokas, when reversed word by word, produce grammatically correct, metrically valid, and meaningful verses - telling a completely different epic. This poetic style is called anuloma-pratiloma-kāvya (अनुलोम-प्रतिलोम-काव्य), meaning "poem in the forward and reverse direction".
The poem has 30 shlokas in the most widely known version - Reading forward and in reverse, amounts to a total of 60 verses. Each verse will be studied in detail with focus on its dual meaning, along with relevant grammar and poetic techniques. The course also covers key themes from the Ramayana and Bhagavata, offering spiritual and literary insights.
